Created in 2013 PhotoDérive was born at the intersection of my curiosity of psychogeography and my love of photography. I developed a game based on a set of analogue cards to kick start photographic Dérives to add a pinch of randomness and inspiration to my photo walks.
What is psychogeograhy? The creator of the discipline, Guy Debord, defined it as “…the study of the precise laws and specific effects of the geographical environment, consciously organized or not, on the emotions and behavior of individuals.”
In 2017 I participated int he 4th World Congress of Psychogeography and was inspired to meet so many artists, performers and academics with an interest in psychogeography in its many forms. My PhotoDerive card game gained new strength and I continued developing it.
In 2019 I started the Berlin Psychogeographic Kollektiv, to plan activities around PhotoDérive…hoping that out of one we can become many with an interest in exploring Berlin with a psychogeographic vibe.
In 2020 PhotoDérive and the Berlin Pschogeographic Kollektiv will host its first event for the Terminalia Festival with a Dérive along the route of the M10 tram line -once the border between East and West. You can read about the event on our Blog and you can participate in it as well!
I have many plans for 2020 and PhotoDérive. If you are interested in psychogeography and a different way to explore and photograph the city, drop me a line at info (at) photoderive (dot) org so we can stay in touch.
